Teaching Sound Doctrine
1. Older Man v. 2
a. temperate
b. dignified
c. sensible - w/ self control against world attractions
d. sound in faith
e. love and perseverance
2. Older Woman v. 3
a. reverent in behaviori
- not to be malicious gossips, enslaved in wine
b. teaching of what is good
3. Younger Woman
a. encouraged
- to love husband and children
- pure, kind
- subject to husbands
3. Young Men
a. sensible
4. Bondslaves/ Servants
a. subject to their masters
- pleasing
- not argumentative
b. not pilfering
c. trustworthy

Why are we to obey God
1. Testimony as followers of Christ
- Purpose: "hina" - so that
a. Woman: the word of God will not be dishonored v. 5
b. Young Men: the opponent will be put to shame, nothing bad to say about us v. 8
c. Workers: they will adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in every respect v. 10
* Light of the World v. Mt. 5:14-16; Phil. 2:15-16
* 3 Wrong Views of Obedience
a. Prove Yourself to God
X Wanting to earn God's love. God will not increase his love with good deeds and not love you less with wrong deeds. His love is perfect.
b. Prove Myself to Other People
- standard should be the Word of God
- comparing ourself to Jesus
c. Prove Myself to Myself
X Feel good about ourselves
2. Receipients of God's Amazing Grace v. 11-14
- Grace: unmerited favor
a. brought salvation
- salvation is a gift
b. instructs us
- comfort that all of life is by grace.
- Doing good because of grace working in us.
- enables us to live sensibly and righteously
v. James 4:6
- depend of God in everything
- any little bit of putting glory in yourself, you don't glorify God
c. enables us to look for the blessed hope in salvation
- grace will send us home
