1. Why is deliverance from sin the greatest miracle?
- pattern of deliverance
a. sickness
b. death
c. bondage of sin
- Sin entered to the world and death is the consequence. Eph. 2:3
a. Doctrine of Original Sin:
~ story of not just what happened but what happens
~ All implicated by Adam's sin and imputed by God's wrath. v. Gen. 3
~ Representation is better than being judged in your own merits and is a gift of God's grace.
b. Guilt of Actual Sins
~ Total depravity of man: Every part of human being is tainted by sin. It affects our minds, heart, feelings, and emotions.
~ Sign of Guilt: shame of our selves and souls. felt naked v. Gen. 3:7
~ Only God can cover our guilt and shame.
- Curse and consequence of sin remained.
a. Guilt: blamed for your own sins
b. Alienation from God
v. Gen. 3:8
- "Where are you Adam?": not because God does not know where they are but forced Adam to admit his sin and felt fear for the first time. v. 10
c. Estrangement from humanity: isolated, manipulate one another, and never-ending conflict
~ v. Gen. 3:12 - first fault assault against woman. example of shifting blame to others
~ v. Gen. 3: 16 - battle of the sexes and struggle of superiority
~ Conflict in family, community, workplace, churches, etc.

d. Battle with the evil one
~ perpetual enmity between evil and woman
~ torments man with tempting them to sin and discourages you of being saved from sin

~ woman: wife and mother. physical pains of childbirth and frustration of not getting married, not having a child, losing a child, and not having the joy of having a child
~ man: subdue the earth. turn the wilderness into garden

~ Death proves to us that we are not God.

~ We return to where we came from: dust
ii. spiritual death v. Rev. 20

2. How Cornelius was saved?
a. God's Sovereign Preparation
v. 1-8 Cornelius' Preparation
- C. = Gentile, centurion, Italian soldier, devout man, man of prayer
> seeking man v. Is. 56:6,7; John 7:17
* Divine election and human's part = Salvation begins with God, but we have a part to seek him.
v. 9-20 Peter's Preparation
- through a vision
* Effective Communication: senders message reaches the receiver
* Those who come prepared are those who are ready to receive the message.
b. Obedience to God's Call of Salvation
i. Apostles Obedience
- Going without asking: full trust in God
- Always be careful to walk humbly before God giving back the full glory due to him. The moment we claim his glory, we become rivals to our God.
ii. Cornelius' Obedience
- submission to the doctrine of salvation as a command not as an offer: repent and believe
~ e.g. Zaccheus given as an imperative not as an invitation
+Elements of Repentance
i. intellectual
- regenerative mind; full acknowledgement of sins; genuine conviction of one's sin
- sins of omission and comission
ii. emotional
- general sorrow for sin not because of consequence
v. Luke 18: tax collector vs. Pharisee
iii. voluntary element
- abandonment of sin: conscious turning to God and away from sin
+ Zaccheus salvation caused him his fortune: giving for the poor and giving fourfold for those he has cheated identifying himself as a chief sinner. (v. Ex. 22:1)
c. Presentation of God's Saving Message of Salvation
- examine carefully. v. I Thes. 5:21

i. Opening/Introduction
~ assuring that salvation is available to prepared heart
ii. Body (message proper)
A. Word of God came first to the Jews
v. 36 (deca-law/10 Commandments)
- before: the Gospel (exodus) and the Law; after: how you came to Christ and being bondslaves of God v. I Peter 2:16
- law: can deter sin but cannot bring full and final salvation, does not transform, shows how sinful we are, provokes us to sin which leads to death
- God gave the Law to prove we are sinners so they would believe the Gospel.
- Jews were also saved by grace through faith to the Savior who is to come. Our difference: Savior who came.
B. Focuses on the One True Messiah
- preaching peace through Jesus Christ
~ reconciled as to God and saved as from the wrath to come
~ Ultimate Salvation: rescued from the wrath that is to come v. I Thes. 1:10
~ fireman & Christ: thinking that house is not on fire/future wrath

X Universal Salvation
- Christ's death expiated the sin of those who beieved in him. v. Col. 1:20
